UCI Esports strives to foster a community of gamers throughout campus and provide them with a space to play their favorite video games, meet other gamers through outreach events, and even compete in intercollegiate Esports competitions
As a graphic designer intern, I was responsible for strategically utilizing design to visually communicate important information in a unique and compelling way. My work consisted of supplying weekly match graphics to report on tournaments that our collegiate teams were participating in and creating promotional social, web, and print material for events.
Additionally, I’ve worked on special projects like spearheading the apparel design of our 2023-2024 Player Jersey, contributing to the design collateral for the University of California Esports Initiative (UCEI) 2023 and 2024 Invitationals, and developing our style guide.

TEAM GRAPHICS
My primary responsibility at UCI Esports was to create 5+ match graphics on a weekly basis to accompany our social media posts that reported on the matches that our Valorant, League of Legends, and Overwatch 2 teams participated in. Additionally, I created yearly roster and team announcements to showcase the players of each team during tryout season. I’ve also had the privilege of designing player cards for our 2023-2024 scholarship teams to highlight each player during our Twitch livestreams.

EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Another responsibility that I upheld, was designing assets to advertise our events and announcements, celebrate holidays, and increase engagement with our program! Designing for various events and announcements allowed me to experiment with new styles and utilize various design techniques to ensure these graphics visually communicate our brand identity and necessary information!

APPAREL DESIGN PROJECT: PLAYER JERSEY
One major design opportunity I was given was to design the jersey for the 2023-2024 academic year. I went through multiple iterations of the design, starting from sketches on Procreate and then transferring them to be vectorized in Adobe Illustrator. Even after reaching a supposed end result, further iterations were made and we ended up with a jersey that has a lot of love and hard work poured into it for the players to wear!
STEP 1: Draw Initial Sketches & Vectorize Selected Designs
STEP 2: Create First Mockup & Iterate Based on Feedback
STEP 3: The Finished Mockup & Materialized Jersey
A refreshing take on topography styles through a jersey that encapsulates the University of California, Irvine’s campus. Now ready for the players to wear and represent UCI Esports!
COLLABORATIVE DESIGN PROJECT:
UCEI INVITATIONALS ASSETS
As part of the UC school system and as one of the largest Esports organizations across the UCs, UCI Esports is a pivotal actor in the annual UCEI Invitationals. Student workers from every UC collaborate to help plan and execute the invitational, and as one of the graphic designers I contributed to the design assets needed to promote UCEI and to help broadcast the event.

UCI ESPORTS STYLE GUIDE
As one of my final projects here at UCI Esports, I designed a formal style guide for future handoff to new graphic design interns and to provide them with some guidance on how to create graphics that remained cohesive to the program’s brand identity.
